Buffalo Ridge
Buffalo silhouettes roam on a pale background between the dark ridges of Log Cabin Blocks. The greens, blues, purples, creams and yellows remind me of the National Bison Range in spring. This pattern it an old one called Cut Glass Dish. The colors are Amish inspired hence the name. The blocks were made by a group of friends, names all listed on the label on back of quilt,1999. The Sanitation Commission of the 1860's requested that women make quilts for the soldiers approx 50 inches wide and 72 inches long of dark, inexpensive fabric. Thousands were made, few still exist. This is a perfect prop for a Civil war reenactor(sp?). Colors predominatly brown 100% cottons, batting HOBBS HEIRLOOM 80/20. Reproduction Sanitation commission label on the back. Cream and cranberry checkerboard surround the snowy landscape of trees on this large quilt. The large boarder is filled with pinecones, boughs and beautiful cranberry colored birds.
